I strongly feel that without support from Russia and/or China there isn't much hope for this situation. In spite of Syria's bad record as far as human rights and democracy are concerned, I think the rest of the world owes them a debt for preventing a bloodbath in Lebanon, or at least of keeping it limited to intermittant assassination. I fail to see how Russia or China would see their vital interests affected one way or another, and I would like to suggest that someone explore the possibility of encouraging either Russia to work with NATO or the US to work with China to bring about the same situation in Syria that Syria has maintained in Lebanon at least until Assad has had the chance to make good on his promises to China.
