This is a double edge sword. Often in my experience indigenious scholarly contribution, sensitive to the situation of muslim and wider the non muslim society, is pushed aside by giving preference to Saudi backed publication. Often these imported translation unware of the cultural and social make up of the communty at the hand of untrained/unscholarly individual become devisive. Islam is a highly scholastic relegion that takes on board social context in its discourse. The indiginous scholar have voiced this concern many times but it seems the zeal to import a particular Saudi interpretation of Islam seems to cloud the judgement. It would have been better for the donar oranisation to support these scholars which would have encouraged home grown world class scholarship.
