Sumoking

Turkey is building carriers too now and the Japanese MOD has just requested an increase in defence spending.

Sumoking

Oddly enough the main weapon used against a submarine, particularly a diesel submarine that can only run underwater at limited speed for a limited time and which has very limited sight to the horizon is the Aircraft carrier, or rather it's air group. It's easy to think that a huge chunk of metal hiding under the surface is hard to detect but when you factor in the use of equipment to detect magnetic changes caused by the presence of a sub or infra red sensors that pick up the heat from a fast nuke boat as it rises up through the sea, they are a lot easier to find than the general populace think. The issue then becomes combing the ocean to find them and since a ship at sea can only sea to the horizon (the horizon varying a bit depending on how high up the ship's radar is) it makes sense to use an aircraft carrier that can, at the very least, send a plane straight up so it can see further (in practice of course you send the plan away out in front of you, or sideways or whatever)
