Everyone hopes that the people of Libya will recover quickly from these disturbances and move on to build a freer, more prosperous and more just society, without hard feelings and without outside interference, in the spirit of Abraham Lincoln's "with malice toward none" speech, but everyone knows that we live in an imperfect world. What strikes me as the most surprising, unique, and interesting thing about your world (e.g., Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan)that is different from mine (Western Europe, USA) is that the political base for national leadership in places like Libya and Iraq seems to depend to a much larger extent on family, tribe, kinship, and ethnicity. People in my part of the world, even those who think of themselves as relatively well-educated too often seem to think that this kind of society for the most part disappeared in Old Testament days of Abraham and Solomon. Our obvious and spectacular failures at "nation building" in Iraq and Afghanistan strike me as largely the result of this kind of well-intentioned arrogance and ignorance. Everyone hopes and prays for a modern world for everyone that provides all that material progress can offer without sacrificing all that is good about the past, but only the people themselves in your part of the world can achieve this. When we in our part of the world try to "help" we seem to do more harm than good. Best wishes for a peaceful and blessed Eid.

I have a friend from skype and facebook. His name was Young al Werfalli, he was Libyan and dark, African looking. He has disappeared. The rebels have killed EVERY darker persom in Tripoli, there are NONE left there at all! In Zaiwia, is that the name of the place near Misurata which once was FULL of blacks, the rebels CLEARED THEM all out too! Why is this unreported im an African newspaper? I am from the UK and have a love of the African people who have so long been oppressed! Muammer had big investments in Africa for Africa, he led the satellite programme and built beautiful mosques for the African, not cheap ones but beautiful ones. Muammer was the hero of African, deeply loved and respected by Mandela! They call him a tyrant but he is anything BUT! This remarkable man and the black people of North Africa are given no mention or mentioned with utter disrepect. May the Christian and Muslim people hold you who wrote this in utter contempt too!
