I want to echo the sentiment of this article that the region needs to be more conscientious of water management, especially when it comes to agriculture. I know that the Abu Dhabi Farmer’s Services Center (@ADFSC) is working to ensure sustainable agriculture in the UAE, which includes the increase in industry best practices, especially water management. It should also be noted that many of the statistics from this article indicate a decline of fresh water resources, but this is from many reasons and not just agriculture. There are so many other wasteful practices in place that need to be eliminated. I couldn’t agree more with the statement “The GCC must now look to maximise its water productivity by using alternative water resources such as treated wastewater and saline water in agriculture.” The municipalities in all three regions of Abu Dhabi are seeking practical ways to collect recycled water, and distribute it through piped networks and tanker trucks for appropriate reuse. Most importantly, I have found that people are too quick to disregard recycled water because of their own unfounded prejudices. In general, people need to do their research and learn the facts about the many benefits of recycled water.

It would be nice to see them open soon. 4 of the 5 near my home have been closed since, and the 5th has such a poor selection I usually have to go to the LuLu's for most purchases. I would love to see open market type stores (stalls) for things like fruit and vegetables rather than go into one of these baqalas. Before they closed, so much of the vegetables and fruits were rotting and moldy. I think it's good in the long term, I just hope it doesn't push too many small businesses out in favor of the colder larger chains of stores.
