The Italian clothes designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are reportedly keen to style the Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor. The 52-year-old, who has made a successful Hollywood foray with movies like Slumdog Millionaire, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and the US TV drama 24, was noticed by the designers at the recent GQ Men of the Year Awards in Mumbai. "Anil is an extremely good looking and a very stylish person. DnG were really impressed when they saw his photograph ... and offered to meet him immediately," Kapoor's agent Atul Kasbekar said.
Bollywood legend heralds golden era of moviemaking
Waheeda Rehman, the star of classic films such as Guide and Kaagaz Ke Phool, believes that that Indian films are better than they've ever been. "People come up to me and say that when I did films that was the golden era, but I don't agree with that. With our films getting appreciation abroad, I feel now is the golden era," the 76-year-old claimed. But she said she pitied younger stars who were at risk of burning out due to overwork. "Other than movies, they [undertake] endorsements, stage performances, promotions, and it takes up so much of their time. I feel sorry for the fact that they have to do so much." - IANS
Hindu group urges Akshay Kumar ban
A conservative Hindu organisation claims the Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar should be stopped from inaugurating the forthcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti convenor Manoj Solanki claimed Akshay's last film, OMG, denigrated Hindu deities. "Akshay Kumar, who is acting as an incarnation of Bhagvan Shri Krishna, is shown in western attire. In place of Sudarshan Shakra, Bhagvan Shree Krishna is shown rotating a key chain in the finger," said Solanki. After presenting a petition to Goan regional government, Solanki said allowing Akshay to open the IFFI would amount to "rubbing salts on the wounds of Hindus in this secular state". - IANS
