After a whirlwind of rumours over the past few months, legendary Manchester band The Stone Roses have confirmed they are to play a gig in Dubai. The hugely-influential indie rockers will perform at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on February 21, organisers Done Events announced today.
Formed in the late 1980s, their near perfect eponymously titled debut album launched the so-called 'Madchester' musical movement, paving the way for the likes of Happy Mondays and Oasis. The band acrimoniously split in 1996, but reformed the original line-up - Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Renie - last year.
They will arrive in the UAE after a successful tour of Europe, where they played to more than one million people and garnered a host of positive reviews along the way.
Their concert in their home town sold 220,000 tickets in just 68 minutes, making it the fastest-selling rock concert in UK history. "With a flurry of top artists now visiting the UAE it is fitting to finally present The Stone Roses live in concert and we can’t wait for a packed Dubai Media City Amphitheatre to rock to songs like, She Bangs The Drums and Fools Gold.” said Thomas Ovesen, of Done Events. Tickets for the concert go on sale on Sunday November 18 and fans can register for tickets at www.thestonerosesdubai.com
