Nelly to perform in Dubai in October
The hip-hop star Nelly is the next artist announced on the growing Atelier Festival bill. The Grammy-winning American rapper will perform alongside 50 Cent and Duffy at Dubai's Meydan Racecourse on October 19. Nelly has been a formidable presence in the music industry through the past decade. His hits include Country Grammar, Dilemma and Just a Dream. Oprah tops Forbes high-paid list
Oprah Winfrey was named by Forbes magazine as the highest-paid celebrity for the fourth straight year, earning an estimated US$165 million (Dh605m) between May 2011 and May 2012. Coming in second is director Michael Bay, who earned $160m in part from Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Rounding out the top five are Steven Spielberg ($130m), Jerry Bruckheimer ($115m) and the music producer Dr Dre ($110m).
Rihanna, Coldplay to duet at Paralympics
Rihanna will perform alongside Coldplay at the closing ceremony of the London Paralympics on September 9. They will sing their collaboration track, Princess of China. Rihanna will take the stage for her own songs before joining Chris Martin and his band mates. The rest of the line-up has not been disclosed. – IANS
Scott cremated; scholarship created
Tony Scott's remains will be kept by his widow at their Los Angeles home, according to information on Scott's death certificate released on Monday. The document doesn't include a formal determination of the cause of his death. The Top Gun director jumped off a Los Angeles bridge on August 19. His family announced on Monday that they have created a memorial scholarship at the American Film Institute to help future filmmakers. – AP
Gere to be honoured at Zurich festival
Richard Gere will receive the Golden Icon lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival, which runs from September 20 to 30. "An extraordinary man whose accomplishments in Hollywood are equalled by his humanitarian achievements," said the festival's artistic director Karl Spoerri. Gere will also present his latest film, the Wall Street thriller Arbitrage, directed by Nicholas Jarecki and co-starring Susan Sarandon.
F1 ball to be held at St Regis
