As is expected of many young artists that shoot to fame at an early age, 25-year-old Kate Nash is going through an image renovation in an effort to rebel against what made her famous in the first place. Nash, who became a darling of the music press almost overnight in 2007 with her debut effort Made Of Bricks and hit single Foundations, returns to the music scene with a break-up inspired opus. Her latest studio-length release Girl Talk sees her breaking free from record label constraints - the record was financed by her fans through fund-raising online. The English singer-songwriter's third album is miles away from the lush pop of her first effort - this time around, mid-1990s Courtney Love is the muse and stubborn reinvention is the catalyst. Sister, All Talk and Cherry Pickin are unabashed, in your face punk songs. Nash's neo-feminist lyrics can come off a bit contrived at times and suggest that she has been listening to too much Bikini Kill, and fans of her old work maybe left puzzled and wanting their old girl back.
