Games get big-screen treatment

The tide of video game to film adaptations shows no sign of abetting. The latest titles rumoured to be getting the big-screen treatment are Valve's classic first-person shooter Half-Life and its more recent award-winning puzzler Portal, with JJ Abrams lined up to helm.

"It's as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets," Abrams said after it was announced he had been in talks with Valve.

He added that they were bringing on a writer. "We're not looking to make a movie in the gaming world. We're not looking to impose what we do on that. We're looking forward to taking some of our strengths and collaborating with some of these incredible minds that make some of my favourite games."
