There's no real mystery in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D

Director: Michael J Bassett

Starring: Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Sean Bean, Carrie-Anne Moss, Radha Mitchell, Malcolm McDowell

In this horror sequel, the girl from the first film (Adelaide Clemens) is an 18-year-old student with no memory of her childhood traumas in the nightmarish town of Silent Hill. But dark forces draw her back to face her demons.

Revelation features a more star-studded cast than its forerunner, with Carrie-Anne Moss as a sinister matriarch and the British cult-movie veteran Malcolm McDowell as a blind asylum inmate.

The film's striking look borrows from the strong visuals of the video game on which it is based. Sadly, the sequel lacks the slow-burn suspense of the first movie and the otherworldly mystery of the game.

A pointlessly convoluted back story results in a mystery thriller with no real mystery. The film relies on cardboard characters and blood-splattered 3D special effects.
