Ranaut: don’t compare my style with Lady Gaga’s

Kangana Ranaut makes many quirky fashion statements and her style is sometimes compared with that of Lady Gaga. However, the Bollywood actress says the comparison is not right. “Comparisons keep happening. I don’t think I should be compared with Lady Gaga because I am an actress and she is a pop star,” the 26-year-old said at the Blenders Pride Fashion Week. “But every woman today is very powerful when it comes to fashion, be it Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga – all of them are experimenting with their looks. I think in India also, we should do a lot more of these looks and clothes and make women look very strong,” Ranaut added. Her latest film Rajjo flopped at the box office. She is currently working on two projects, Queen and Revolver Rani, both scheduled to be released next year. – The National staff

Mumbai film festival to begin on February 3

The 13th edition of the Mumbai International Film festival (MIFF) for documentary and short and animation films will begin on February 3, according to a statement. Organised by Films Division, Government of India and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, it will be held at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai. MIFF is the oldest and largest international film festival for non-feature and animation films in Asia. This year, the festival will pay tribute to the acclaimed Canadian documentary filmmaker Peter Wintonick, who died on November 18. – IANS

Dhanush and Akshara Haasan paired in new film

The Tamil actor Dhanush, last seen in the Hindi-language romantic drama Raanjhanaa, has reportedly signed his second Hindi film, to be directed by R Balki. The film will also mark the debut of Akshara Haasan, Kamal Haasan’s younger daughter. Balki told an Indian daily that the film, which is likely to be released by the end of 2014, has three leads. Balki is also working on a movie with Amitabh Bachchan. Haasan’s older daughter Shruti, an established actress, was in the news recently after a man who had been stalking her for weeks was arrested. – The National staff
