Film Review: see the highs and lows of superstardom in Part of Me

Part of Me
Director: Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz
Starring: Katy Perry
•••

Music fans get a glimpse into the highs and lows of superstardom in this 3D documentary, following Perry as she deals with a world tour, global media scrutiny and a tempestuous personal life. Examinations of the pop idol's humble beginnings and career struggles portray Perry as a tireless worker devoted to her fans and craft. It's all a little too manicured, however, and while the entertainment is plentiful during the spectacular concert scenes, you never get the feeling you're seeing the real person. Even as they (briefly) cover her impending divorce to comedian Russell Brand, it still feels rather too polished. Delightful for fans, Perry's screen debut is a calculated but entertaining proposition.
