Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth is among the clutch of celebrities heading to the UAE in December for this year’s Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).
Firth, who is returning to DIFF for the second time after attending in 2010 to promote The King’s Speech, will be the guest of honour at the One Night To Change Lives charity gala dinner on December 14.
He will be joined at the event by his fashion entrepreneur wife Livia, Sex & The City actress Kristin Davis and Rooney Mara, best known for her role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie.
Egyptian actor Amr Waked and UAE director Ali Mostafa are also on the guest list for the event at the Armani Hotel in the Burj Khalifa.
One Night to Change Lives is organised by the UAE-based philanthropic organisation Dubai Cares and international humanitarian charity Oxfam. Last year the event raised more than $1 million (Dh3.67 million) for the good causes through ticket sales and the auction of the one-of-a-kind celebrity-donated items.
Firth, his wife, and Davis are all international ambassadors for Oxfam and have travelled extensively with the charity to raise awareness of global poverty.
Among the lots going under the hammer this year is a VIP trip to New York with tickets to see Scarlett Johansson - another Oxfam ambassador - perform the in the hit Broadway show Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, as well as a meeting with the Hollywood superstar.
Tickets cost Dh1,825 per person or Dh18,250 for a table of 10. Visit eventelephant.com/onenighttochangelives or call 04 445 6842 for more information. The ninth edition of DIFF is set to take place from December 9 to 16.
