Alden Ehrenreich, left, plays a high school student involved in a romance with a teenage witch. Steve Dietl / Summit Entertainment

Beautiful Creatures story seems familiar

Director: Richard LaGravenese

Starring: Alice Englert, Alden Ehrenreich, Jeremy Irons

**

Beautiful Creaturesis yet another tale of a young adult possessing supernatural powers.

Wanting desperately to cash in on the abandoned Twilight audience, the movie revolves around a romance between the teenage witch Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert) and her human classmate Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich).

The director Richard LaGravenese tries to appeal to a more hip audience than just tweens but Ehrenreich lacks star appeal.

Emma Thompson as the conniving hag Sarafine seems to have come dressed in her Nanny McPhee shtick. Only Jeremy Irons as Lena's father comes out with any credit in this poor adaptation of the books by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.
