ABU DHABI // A fire in an apartment building yesterday caused major damage to the home of an Indian family who had lived there for 15 years.
None of the four people who lived in the apartment was at home when the fire started, and no injuries were reported. The building was in a neighbourhood between Muroor Road and Airport Road.
One resident, Harpreet Singh, 25, watched as firemen extinguished the blaze. His father runs a ceiling repair business on the ground floor of the three-storey building.
“I was at work and got a call to come home,” Mr Singh said. “My father is on holiday in India. All our belongings are inside.”
The fire broke out at around 2.30pm, said a police officer. “There was nobody inside, but the living room was very damaged,” the officer said. The fire may have been started by an electrical fault, he said. An investigation is ongoing.
