Trezeguet equals Sivori’s Juve tally

David Trezeguet, the France centre-forward struck his 167th goal for Juventus in a 5-2 victory at Atlanta on Saturday night to equal the tally scored at the club by 1950s and 60s great Omar Sivori.

“I’m really happy. It’s an important achievement,” said the Frenchman, who joined the Italian giants in 2000.

Trezeguet was his side’s only available striker with Amauri suspended and Alessandro Del Piero and Vincenzo Iaquinta unfit. He added: “I never thought I’d catch Sivori when I arrived at Juve.

“The important thing is that we played an excellent match and have shown we have desire and are a tough side. Now we have to be consistent.”

Mauro Camoranesi struck twice with Felipe Melo and Diego grabbing the others as Juve cemented second place.

Jaime Valdes and Fabio Ceravolo scored for the Bergamo side trained by Antonio Conte, a contender for the job in Turin in the close season before his old Juve team mate Ciro Ferrara was promoted from caretaker to permanent coach.

In yesterday’s matches, first-half goals from Thiago Silva and Alexandre Pato saw AC Milan beat Lazio 2-1 away. Silva scored an own-goal in the second half, but Milan hung on to move into third place ahead of Sampdoria in the table.

Samp conceded two late goals to lose 2-0 away at Cagliari.
