Ties with Liechtenstein established
- Last Updated: October 24. 2009 12:13AM UAE / October 23. 2009 8:13PM GMT
The UAE has established formal diplomatic relations with the tiny alpine state of Liechtenstein, the state news agency, WAM, reported yesterday.
A communique was signed in New York on Thursday by the UAE’s Ambassador to the UN, Ahmad al Jarman, and Christian Wenaweser, his Liechtensteiner counterpart.
After the signing ceremony the two ambassadors discussed political, cultural and economic relations between the two countries.
Liechtenstein is a landlocked, German-speaking principality located in the Rhine valley. With a population of just 35,000, it is bordered to the east by Austria and to the west by Switzerland.
The signing marked the latest fruit of a burst of diplomatic activity by the UAE. In the past two weeks, formal relations have been established with Haiti, Monaco and the Pacific island of Palau.
